Amber Solutions comes closer to realising the digital control of electricity
A remarkable year for Amber
News of the funding comes after Amber Solutions secured several patents related to digital AC/DC enablers, an AC switch, a digital method for sensing ground faults, and ultra-efficient LED light fixtures.
In a year which presented an unprecedented and challenging business climate, Amber’s success is remarkable, says its CEO Thar Casey. “2020 presented a challenging business climate, but our commitment to revolutionize the world’s building electrical infrastructure helped Amber enter 2021 with increased investment, new patents, as well as multiple industry award wins and nominations,” he said.
Amber’s progress in this field indicates the increasing demand from major electronics manufacturers for solid-state electrification technology. This is because these technologies have the potential to transform the global market for electrical products and services.
In addition to its patents, Amber also won a BIG Innovations Award for 2021, a CES 2021 Innovations Award, and is currently nominated for a 2021 Edison Award.

Where will the funding go?
The $8.5 million in funding will help Amber Solutions to develop new power management technologies. Casey says that this funding is a natural milestone for the business as it comes at a time when Amber moves away from validation and core technologies to commercialization, certification, and production.
Amber will now focus its investments on expanding its core engineering team to help the company scale and support its ambitions to go to market with its solid-state products. The expansion will also include finalization of the engineering architecture that will enable the company to bring its digital control of electricity technology to a silicon System-on-Chip (SoC).
Casey also says that 2021 will be the year when solid-state electrification comes to fruition and mark a second electrical revolution.

“It’s one of the most significant, global technology upgrade opportunities, rivaling the solid-state TV or smartphone transformation from prior standards,” he explains, adding that it presents an opportunity to upgrade every electrical endpoint and powered appliance globally, embedding artificial intelligence while also modernizing the electrical grid.
If true, the solid-state digital control of electricity led by Amber could significantly enhance the safety of devices, improving the value of connected Internet of Things systems, and transform the electrical infrastructure of buildings to make them truly smart.
