South Korean photovoltaic module manufacturer LG Electronics has announced that it has launched a 60-cell, 370 W module with a high efficiency of 21.4%. That "premium" monocrystalline solar panel product can reportedly produce 370 W from its 1.7m x 1m surface.

Launched as part of efforts to expand its solar panel business, LG claims that the photovoltaic (PV) module, the LG370N1C-N5, is a “premium” product and that additional new modules will follow later on this quarter.

LG Electronics also plans to upgrade its production lines in Gumi, South Korea, so that the company can produce more high-performance modules starting early next year. From Q1 2021, LG will begin producing a new module with more than 400 W of output. “For this, LG will rely on ‘paving technology’ which once again improves performance with minimal cell spacing. These innovations will help bring new products to market with an improved design and even greater reliability,” said an LG spokesperson.
Meanwhile, the company’s latest PV product boasts 60 individual cells (6 x 10) each with bus bars on the rear. This increases the area available for absorption in contrast to them being placed on the front. LG call this technology Neon R Prime. Weighing in at 18kg and measuring only 40mm in thickness, the LG370N1C-N5 PV solar panel can deliver 41.8 V from 1,000W/m2, 25°C, 1.5AM irradiance in open-circuit. In short circuit, the figure is 10.92 A. Maximum power is achieved at 35.8 V 10.43 A and up to 19 panels can be used in series without the panels straying from their 1 kV rating.
This latest product by LG follows on from a series of innovations last year which saw the company introduce a solar roof that can be built into electric and hybrid vehicles as a range extender to produce energy that enables mileage of around 1,300 km per year for a medium-sized vehicle. Also last year, LG unveiled a 3 MW system consisting of roughly 7,500 solar panels to the Moorebank Logistics Park in Sydney, which is predicted to produce 4.8 GWh per annum.
