Weidmüller has now added the UR20-8DI-ISO-2W and UR20-4DO-ISO-4A I/O modules to its U-Remote family, which have galvanically isolated input and output signals. U-Remote is part of the automation and digitization portfolio U-Mation.

In decentralized machines and production lines, process plants as well as marine and offshore applications, interference often occurs due to potential differences, ground loops or line-induced field influences. The reasons for this are long cable routes and complex networks. In such systems, it is almost impossible to avoid multiple shielding connections and the formation of conductor loops. Even if all interferences have been minimized during commissioning, they occur at the latest when extensions or repairs are due at short notice. If shielding is then damaged, a shield connection is not cleanly designed over the entire surface or oxidized, the induced interference fields have a direct effect on the signal and data transmission. In addition, there is a growing number of internal sources of interference, such as frequency converters or lighting equipment.

Galvanically isolated input and output signals

With galvanically isolated input and output signals such disturbances can be limited or even completely avoided. In the best case, they remain below the limit value at which they impair the function of the system. If faults do occur, the source of the fault is easy to find. The company has developed the I/O modules for such applications. Thanks to a galvanic isolation of at least 500 V between the channels and to the system, they enable trouble-free operation, even in loaded applications. The channels are protected against mutual interference as well as against external interference.

Eight inputs and four outputs with 11.5 mm overall width

The digital input module UR20-8DI-ISO-2W can acquire up to eight binary control signals in two-wire technology. The UR20-4DO-ISO-4A digital output module can control up to four two-wire actuators via four outputs with up to 4 A DC or 2 A AC at up to 48 V AC/DC. Both modules have their own status LED on each channel so that the user is always informed about the operating status on site. With a width of 11.5 mm, the modules are designed to meet the demand for compact and space-saving automation solutions.
