TDK-Lambda's TPS series can operate on all 3-phase supplies at 400, 440 and 480 V AC and provides 24 or 48 V DC output voltage, adjustable to 19.2 to 28.5 or 38.4 to 58 V, respectively. The TPS3000 with up to 3200 W output power is now followed by the TPS4000 with up to 4080W output power.

The TPS4000 provides output voltage and overcurrent shutdown programming, warning signals (DC Good, AC Fail, Dropped Phase), configurable remote on/off switching, a 12 V / 0.3 A standby output and a PMBus interface. This allows monitoring of output voltage, output current, internal temperature, status signals and fan function. In addition, output voltage, current limiting and remote on/off switching are programmable via the PMBus interface.

Output voltage with an adjustment range of +/- 20 % and current limiting with + 5/- 30 % are adjustable via front potentiometer, analog 0 to 5 V DC control voltage and PMBus interface. An integrated ORing FET simplifies parallel operation of up to 8 devices for redundant operation or higher power requirements up to 32 kW.

The converters nevertheless have an efficiency of up to 90 % and can be operated at housing temperatures from -40 to +100 °C. Their mounting plate is suitable for contact cooling and can either be mounted to enclosure parts or cold plates, or interface with heat sinks for convection or forced ventilation. The package is silicone encapsulated to provide a high level of shock and vibration resistance.

The device is available with rated output voltages of 12, 15, 24 and 48 V DC, which can also be adjusted over a range of -20% to +15%. All models are equipped with overcurrent, output overvoltage and overtemperature protection. Standard features include remote sense connections, a remote on/off function, frequency synchronization of the switching frequency with an external clock frequency, and the ability to connect electrolytic capacitors to the internal DC link to efficiently extend the bridging time during power interruptions.

The isolation between input and output and between input and mounting plate is 3000 V AC, and the isolation between output and mounting plate is 500 V AC. Safety is certified with IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1; CE and UKCA markings confirm compliance with low-voltage and RoHS directives. For railroad applications, the converters have been tested in a typical test setup according to EN 50155, EN 45545-2, EN 61373 and EN 50121-3-2.
